Bushwick Food Co-op Damaged in Fire

IMG_4676.jpg

Dear BFC Owners and Friends,

We are very sorry to announce that our store was damaged overnight by fire.  No one was injured. The fire damaged the external areas of the Co-op on Porter Avenue and there was some fire damage and extensive water and smoke damage throughout the store.

Our store will be closed this weekend and for the foreseeable future as a result.

Our General Manager, Fran Sanhueza, as well as Store Manager, Laurel Garnet, and members of the Board of Directors were able to respond quickly to the events including working with the Fire Marshall, Police, and our building management to assess and begin addressing the damage. An insurance claim process has begun. Fran, Laurel, Dorothy, Carly, and many owners spent today cleaning and salvaging our inventory.

Our usual Monthly Cooperative meeting on Monday, July 8th, 2019 at 7 pm will still be held at the Loom building. We will be providing updates on these events at this meeting. Please see the Events section on the Website for details https://www.bushwickfoodcoop.org/events

Throughout the next few days and weeks, we will be providing updates through our website, social media accounts, and our email newsletter. Please keep up to date by checking these sources regularly.

We know that our community will be able to see us through this challenging moment. Thank you all for your continued support and active participation in our shared business.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
