Whether you’re in the market for a tasty new condiment (the kind that causes coworkers to comment, “That smells great!” when you reheat your stir-fry in the communal microwave), or looking specifically for an actually-good-for-you soy sauce replacement, Bushwick Food Co-op has just the thing for you: Coconut Secret Coconut Aminos. The Coconut Secret brand was founded in 2008, with the goal of providing healthy, organic, great tasting, low glycemic foods for diabetics – and, with these delicious liquid aminos, they have certainly succeeded.
Why do some people seek out soy sauce alternatives? There are two major reasons: soy sauce is very salty, to an extent that can be lethal if consumed in high quantities (by the way, Coconut Aminos, are salty, too, albeit less so, being made of only two ingredients – coconut sap and high-mineral sea salt); and full of isoflavones, which can disturb the body’s normal hormonal functioning, blocking or encouraging estrogen production in harmful ways. Along with a few other purported health risks, these factors lead some people to avoid soy, although they may still crave its unique, umami flavor.
That’s where Coconut Aminos come in: rich in umami flavor (albeit of a rather coconut-y variety!) and full of naturally occurring amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins, and contribute to many of our bodies’ important physical processes; all while being soy, gluten, and GMO-free. Coconut Aminos will improve the taste of your stir fry while also improving your health – and, I don’t know about you, but there’s not much more that I require from my food!
