For more than 6 years, BK Swappers has been organizing food barter events where people come together to trade their homemade, edible goods. If you cook, bake, can/preserve, ferment, grow or forage food and would like to trade the fruits of your labor for other delectable, handmade foods, then BK Swappers is for you!
Fran and BK Swapper organizer, Margaret (also a Bushwick Food Coop member), brainstormed that the common spirit of community and food enthusiasm shared between the two groups would make for a great pair. With that, plans began for a Bushwick Food Swap! Coop neighbor and vendor, FINE & RAW chocolate’s generously offered its factory space to host the event.
The events are fun and social! Everyone lays out their food and some notes folks might want to know – For example if it’s vegan, needs refrigeration, was grown in Brooklyn, or is extra spicy. Many folks provide samples of their offering. Food swappers have brought everything from fermented cider and mustard to cookies and cured meat. You just need to have made, grown or foraged it and be ready to trade for other goodies. You’re the judge of what you swap and no money is exchanged. Just a good old fashioned food swap! For more details, check out their FAQ.
The food swap will be Tuesday, March 22nd – grab your free “tickets” on EventBrite. While FINE & RAW is providing a space that can accommodate a larger event, spaces fill up fast! Put a reminder on your calendar for Monday, March 7th at noon, when tickets go on sale. Then, go to http://www.eventbrite.com/e/bk-swappers-fine-raw-tickets-20945881696 and grab a spot!
